Unfortunately, knowledge about easing birth with obstetric gel got lost along the way in "modern obstetrics" in humans. In Ancient Rome, olive oil was used to ease childbirth. In veterinary medicine, on the other hand, obstetric gels are prescribed to this day to ease the process of birth. Dianatal® Obstetric Gel is the only obstetric gel specially developed for birth in women, which is suitable for this purpose and has been tested and licensed.
Because of the ingredients contained in “normal gels”, their safety and effectiveness cannot be guaranteed. Dianatal® Obstetric Gel has special properties which other gels do not have.
Perineum massage oil increases friction in combination with amniotic fluid. Furthermore, like other oils, the essential oils in perineum massage oils can irritate the newborn’s eyes, cause foreign-body reactions and have other serious side effects.
Amniotic fluid is not slippery, although on the other hand vernix is. Unfortunately in most newborns, the vernix has largely disappeared, so that it plays no part in easing the birth.
Friction between the so-called birth canal and the baby is an important force which impedes birth. If the friction is reduced by an obstetric gel, the birth is easier. A similar example is the use of a lubricating gel during sex or the use of soap to slip a ring from the finger more easily.
Dianatal® Obstetric Gel is not covered by public health insurance. However, many health insurance companies take over the costs on request. Ask your health insurance company.
